Week #23: Feb. 8-12

February 8th, 2010

*Remember Wednesday, 2/10 is a Late Arrival day.  School will start exactly 2 hours later than normal.

*The Spelling Bee is also on Wednesday 2/10.

*I will have Math Help on Thursday after school from 2:35-3:35.  Everyone is invited to get help for the test on Friday.

Monday:  Unit 5 Test Review in class.  Whatever is not finished will be homework due on Wednesday 2/10.  Please get a parent or guardian signature on the review.

Tuesday: pARTners project in class

Wednesday: Late arrival schedule, classes will be shorter.  Unit 5 Test Review is due with a parent signature.

Thursday: pARTners project in class  Homework: Study for the Unit 5 Test!!!  Math Help from 2:35-3:35

Friday: Unit 5 Test in class

Have a nice long holiday weekend!  No school on Monday, 2/15.

Week #22: Feb. 1-5

February 1st, 2010

This week we start our “Math in Drawing Project” with pARTners.  We will have a guest artist in the classroom for 5 class periods:  Tue. 2/2, Thur. 2/4, Tue. 2/9, Thur 2/11, and Tue. 2/16.  Students will be drawing a portrait of themselves using angle measurements and distance measurements to construct the drawing.  It’s a really cool project and I can’t wait to see the final product!

*The project will have some effect on the homework schedule.

Monday: Clicker Quiz for Unit 5 in class testing students’ knowledge of angle measurements, angle relationships, & circle graphs.  Homework: Study Link 5.8 due Wednesday 2/3!!!

Tuesday: Guest artist from pARTners to begin the project.

Wednesday: Parallel lines and angle relationships.  Turn in SL 5.8.  Homework:  Study Link 5.9 due Friday 2/5!!!!!!

Thursday: Guest artist from pARTners to continue project.

Friday: Angle Relationships in Parallelograms.  Begin reviewing for the Unit 5 Test.  Turn in SL 5.9.

Week #21: Jan. 25-29

January 26th, 2010

This week students will be taking the math portion of the MAP Test.  Please remind them to do their best on these tests.  This is their chance to show what they have learned this year!

Also, the schedule is a little confusing due to the testing.  I have outlined the week based on class period.

1st and 2nd Periods:

Tuesday-Constructing figures with a compass and straightedge.  Homework: Study Link 5.7 due Wednesday.

Wednesday-Students will work on their Compass Drawing Projects.  This project is due on Friday!!!!!

Thursday-Students will take the MAP test during class.

Friday-Constructing figures with a compass and straightedge, part 2.

6th Period:

Tuesday-Students will take the MAP test during class.  Then they will have 7th hour to finish MAP and work on the Compass Drawing Project.  This project is due on Monday, Feb. 1st for this group of kids.

Wednesday-No Math, students will stay in science for 2 hours.

Friday-Work on Compass Drawings and Constructing figures with a compass and straightedge, part 2.

7th Period:

Tuesday-No Math, students will stay in science for 2 hours.

Week #20: Jan. 18-22, 2010

January 18th, 2010

*The 3rd Quarter starts today.  We have made it halfway through the school year!  All students start with a clean slate for grades and behavior.  Let’s make it a good one :)

*Friday, 1/22/10, will be Quarterly Recognition for those students who earned it 2nd Quarter.

Monday: Today we will be doing Coordinate Geometry.

Tuesday: Isometry Transformations on the coordinate grid.  Homework:  Study Link 5.5

Wednesday: Congruent Figures

Thursday: Introduce the Circle Drawing Art in Math project and begin work on this project.  Homework:  There will be homework tonight, but I’m not sure what the assignment will be.  I’ll keep you posted.

Friday: Circle Drawing Project and Quarterly Recognition!


Week #18: Jan. 4-8, 2010

January 5th, 2010

Happy New Year and Welcome Back!!!

The following schedule is for 1st, 2nd, and 7th Periods only:

Tuesday: We will practice converting between decimals & percents, and converting fractions to decimals and percents.  Homework: Study Link 4.9.

Wednesday: Today we will represent data with circle graphs.

Thursday: We will review finding a percent of a number.  Homework: Study Link 4.11.

Friday: We will review concepts learned this week and take a Quiz over the material.

The following schedule is for 6th Period only:

Tuesday:  Unit 4 Fractions Test

Wednesday: We will practice converting between decimals & percents, and converting fractions to decimals and percents.  Homework: Study Link 4.9.

Thursday: Today we will represent data with circle graphs.

Friday: We will review finding a percent of a number.  Homework: Take-home quiz over material learned this week.

Week 16 & 17: Dec. 14-22

*Please get late assignments turned in before Christmas Break!!

*Students will see Alice in Wonderland on Friday during specials.

Monday, 12/14- Multiplying mixed numbers.

Tuesday 12/15-Multiplying mixed numbers continued.  Homework: Math Boxes 4.7

Wednesday 12/16- Fractions, Decimals, & Percents.  I will be out today for a training.

Thursday 12/17- Begin Reviewing for the Unit 4 Test in class.  Homework: Unit 4 Test Review.  Please get this signed by a parent or another adult.

Friday 12/18- Unit 4 Test Review continued.  Homework: I normally don’t give homework on the weekends, but please STUDY for the Unit 4 Test which will be on Monday.

Monday 12/21 – UNIT 4 TEST in class.

Tuesday 12/22 – Some sort of fun math activity during class.

Monday: Today we will practice addition and subtraction of mixed numbers with like denominators.

Tuesday: Addition and Subtraction of mixed numbers with unlike denominators.  Homework: Unit 4 Quiz Review

Wednesday: We will go over the review in class and take the Unit 4 Quiz

Thursday: We will begin multiplication of fractions.  Homework: Study Link 4.6

Friday: Multiplication of Mixed Numbers.

*Please encourage students to turn in any late assignments including the Unit 3 Test Corrections

Week #14: Nov. 30 – Dec. 3

November 30th, 2009

*Remember No School this Friday, Dec. 4th!!!!!

*Unit 3 Test Corrections due Thursday, Dec. 3rd.

*I will be in my classroom everyday this week during lunch for students who were absent to work on finishing Dream Store Project.  I will also help with test corrections during this time.

Monday: The start of Unit 4:  Rational Number Uses and Operations.  We start this unit with a review of equivalent fractions and renaming fractions in simplest form.  Students should work on Test Corrections tonight.

Tuesday: Comparing Fractions with unlike denominators.  Homework: Study Link 4.1 due Wednesday.  Students will also be sent home with the Unit 4 Family Letter today.

Wednesday: Adding & Subtracting Fractions with like and unlike denominators.  Homework: due to the 4 day week,  I am assigning homework on Wednesday but not over the long weekend.  Study Link 4.3 due Thursday.

Thursday: Adding & Subtracting Mixed Numbers with like Denominators

Week #12: Nov. 16 – 20

November 17th, 2009

*The Dream Store Project will be due on Tuesday, November 24!!!! Remember there is a 15 point extra credit visual aide to go with your project.  This is a great way to make up some points in math.

Please let me know if you plan to miss any school for Thanksgiving Vacation

Tuesday: Today in class we are looking at and interpreting graphs.  Homework: Complete problems #1-8 on the Unit 3 Test Review due tomorrow for a COLA grade.  Parents can sign the review tonight or on Wednesday night.

Wednesday: We will have this class period to work on the Dream Store Project, which is due the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.  Don’t forget about the extra credit.  Homework: Complete the rest of the Unit 3 Test Review (Problems #9-19).  Don’t forget the parent signature on the review!

Thursday: We will go over the test review and additional examples in class to prepare for the Unit 3 Test.  Students will have this time to ask any questions.

Friday: Unit 3 Test and Open Response Problem

Week #11: Nov. 9-13

November 9th, 2009

Monday: Formulas, Tales, and Graphs Part 1.  Students will represent rates with data tables, rules expressed in words, formulas and line graphs.  Study Link 3.4 due today.

Tuesday: A Science Experiment.  Students will use diagrams, formulas, and graphs for making predictions and drawing conclusions.  Homework: Unit 3 Quiz Review due Wednesday at the start of class.

Wednesday: We will first go over the quiz review in class then take the Unit 3 Quiz.  When finished, students will complete Math Boxes.

Thursday: Today we will work on the Dream Store Math Project.  Homework: Study Link 3.6 due Friday.

Friday: Variables and Formulas in Spreadsheets:  Part 1.  Students will get an introduction to spreadsheets and will use variables, formulas, and operations in spreadsheets.
